pueblens are coming home soon

rainboa Feb 03, 2004 06:15 PM

I just bought a pair of peublan milk snakes, and they will be coming home soon. I would like some feedback on what i have planned on their first home.

First of all, they are about 2.5 feet long (both of them).

tank: about a 30 gallon reptile tank w/ screened top.
heat: under the tank heat pad, and or heat lamp
substrate: mixture of coconut fiber and chunks

also a water bowl, and hide.

Any other items i'll be needing?

thanks,

Matt

If not, you will most likely end up with ONE well-fed milk.-Brett

I do not have two tanks. Why would that result in ONE well fed milk, will one eat the other.

I do plan on removing one while feeding if that is what you mean.

please elaborate

Yes, milksnakes are notorious for being canabalistic. One may well eat the other. There are people who successfully keep more than one milk in the same tank, but I wouldn't. My snakes are my pets, and I don't want to risk losing one.

Hope this helps,
Nicki

I keep my adults together year round, unless you're not planning on breeding: Multiple females in one tank, males
separate. No heat source is used. Fed only in warm weather or if room is in the 70's. Feed extra when breeding. My animals fed inside shoe boxes to avoid conflict, and then placed back in cage. They all prefer the quiet and dark when feeding.
You can keep yours together if you're able to keep an eye on them for a while. If you see the wrong "attitude" then separate.
