Hey Nevin,
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the BRB's who's sides get silvery (almost always at night so I'm guessing its a metabolism triggered response)are called 'Lamar phase' or something like that. The two babies I kept from them also have this same condition and was apparent early on (they are now 20 months old). So your BRB's sides do not lighten at all at night?
How old is it? I'm embarrassed to say I can't remember if they lightened up at night immediatly after birth or if it became apparent months later. I'll check some of my early pics for dates and get back to you.

The earliest pics I took showing the silver sides were at 9 months old. I'm pretty sure they were showing the silver much earlier than that.

im srry to say that i dont kno what ur talking about wen u speak of silver at nite time. the contrast i was talking about what the white of the belly, and the orange or red of the back lol. looking at the pics of urs in there cage, and jeff clark adults, i thought the brightness of the white on the belly compared to the back colors were increadable. both of mine are shedding right now, but wen there done ill get pics posted. i just bought a baby that is sapposta b an orange phase, but im a lil conserned that its not, so i was ganna ask urs and someothers opinions on if it is an orange or if its to early to tell, or if its not. ill get the pics soon they should b done shedding by the end of the week.
thanx again

haha looking closer at your pics i c what ur talking about with the silver. my female is a 15 months old, and my male is only 3 months old. they were born the same month a year apart.

The belly! OK, I can be a little slow (but sincere).
After your's shed they should be really bright white. With good husbandry they'll remain that way until they get ready to shed again (then they yellow/pink up a little). Interestingly, my adults which do not have belly heat (heat emanating from below) do not get pinkish before shedding. My subadults that are currently kept in rubbermaids with heat pads however, do. This year they graduate out of sweater boxes.
I also think keeping them on newspaper can stain their bellies with ink (especially if kept really wet). If your using newspaper, use some that have been sitting around for a week or so so that the print is not fresh. Also change it out frequently if it gets saturated.
Really went on for awhile on that silvery side thing!

lol its aright im prob just as slow at times. im not quite done with my home made cage, my brbs are allready in it. just some finishing touches, i plan on putting selfs, another cave, and linging the back with cork bark. there are 2 pics i posted a lil ways down on the forum. but one other thing i was wandering about was in one of ur messages u said u keep ur cage heated my blue lights, what wattage are the lights, and how high is the cage, also how do u keep the humidity high in ur cage with a such a small looking water dish?
srry to ask so meny questions im just very envious of ur cage. its absolutly awsome
thanx

Hey, thanks Nevin. I wish I could say I built it. Be sure to post your final product, it's already sweet.
My enclosure is 4 ft. high and I use ESU Reptile NightLight Spot lamps ("coated w/ RARE EARTH BLACK PHOSPORS to simulate the Natural Glow of the Moon"; ok, I'm a sucker for that kind of [bleep] but it really does look nice). They are ridiculously expensive but I get long life out of them by keeping them on 24/7 (ideally controlled by a proportional reostate which I've not taken out of the box since the divorce and subsequent relocation, now I'm manually adjusting the wattages to keep the temps right). When I used a thermostat that turned them on and off to control the temps I was getting much less life out of them. The enclosure has 6 fixtures arranged across the top and I use lamps of varying wattages to create both a vertical and horizontal gradient (30w up to 100w). The lights are separated from the living quarters by a heavy, coated mesh.
For humidity I've got a 1/2 gallon garden sprayer (you pump it up to pressurize it) and I spray the enclosure down about once a day (the substrate really holds the moisture well so if I miss a day or two its no big deal). My adults infrequently use the basin to soak (usually just after they've eaten, but even then its rare).
Take care,
Paul
