I need opinions PLEASE!!!

red_eyed_magalie Feb 03, 2004 06:43 PM

Hi everybody...

I wanted to hear about BARRS.com

http://www.herpcages.com/cages/cprice2.html

Specifically the cage above...(16x16x20) or any of their cages.

Being a single mom, I can't afford those big honkin cages. But I noticed in a previous post someone recommended this site.

So I checked it out ...

ANYHOW...

They seem really nice and a GREAT price...

I will need to buy a couple and wanted to know if these were as good as they look.

Thank you
Maggie

OK, if its opinions you want, I've got 'em. I have the following herpcages.com cages (aka Barrs cages):
LxWxH
20x20x20 (1)
36x12x12 (2)
8x10x8 (6)

The cages are ultra light-weight and an attractive stark white color with an acrylic door which closes flush with the cage front. The cage material is high density polystyrene, about 1/8" thick or more depending on the cage.

These cages are nice for humid-loving herps because they are impervious to moisture. They are real easy to heat and insulate well for exotic animals. They have about a 5/16" or more recess under the bottom for easy attachment of Flexwatt or heat pads. They stack with that recess so heating stacked cages is easy.

The material is darn tough. It is different from the material used in Vision cages (HDPE in Vision, HDPS in Barrs) or Boaphile cages (expanded PVC).

The only possible drawback is that the cages are so light in weight, you can nudge a stack and it may move. Great for shipping costs though. Their racks are really nice.

All plastics have differences. Barr cages are nice and the price is right. I think they are great for arboreal exotics and young boas and pythons.

Wow!

Thank you so much. Great! I am really leaning on this decision. I don't plan on stacking them, though. If I did, it would be the longer ones for the RTB's. But I can always get something for non skid type of something...

But thank you so much for the response.

They are super well built. And they come heated.

I checked out their website and couldn't find any cages. I found some racks (nice) but I don't need racks.

Is there a link to where he has his cages posted? I clicked on each link to his site and I found nothing on cages.

Let me know
Thanks

the cages seem kinda expensive considering you can build something like that really cheap and they are so small. If you have a bit of time you can build a cage out of an old dressor and spend about the same amount.

red_eyed_magalie Feb 04, 2004 09:43 AM

I wish I could build. No talent on building and no place to build.

But I did check around after receiving some plans on how to build and asked around to see what it would cost to build it if I were to purchase all of the stuff, but they wanted almost as much to build them. So I am looking into just buying them. I don't know. Still looking. Thank you for the feedback! I appreciate your time.

WOW! Great feed back! Thank you so much.

How about the cages offered by Cool Critters?

http://market.kingsnake.com/detail.php?cat=22&de=181959

What are you feeling about them.

Has anyone tried them and how do you like them?

I am debating which one's to get ...

Barrs (all cages come w/vents on top)
16"x16"x20" Sale $75 (reg $85)
20"x20"x20" $100
12"x12"x16" $42
Not sure about shipping charges, but I can always get these at the reptile show coming soon.

Cool Critters
WxTxD
35x23x22 $200 shipped
30x24x24 $175 shipped.
24x24x24 $160 shipped.
24x18x16 $120 shipped.
16x16x16 $85 shipped.
Cages include adjustable 2x12 or 4x10 vent.

Let me know - I know the cages vary in prices...but which one would be ideal for my situation...

Thanks for all of your support!

I have four (three of the 24 x 12 and one 3-footer) and I love them all. I heat them with radiant panels.

BARRS aren't just a great cage for the price, they're a great cage, period.

You won't regret getting one.
