Egg Bound?

lostkauze Feb 03, 2004 06:53 PM

My female leo is gravid, and having some problems. This is her first time breeding, so this could contribute to the problem. The eggs inside of her are getting pretty large, and i had hoped for her to lay them a week ago. I've been giving her warm water soaks everyday and massaging her, and she has contractions. she's had them since i first start soaking her, and they keep getting larger. What else can I do to help my leo? I'm getting kind of worried. If she doesn;t lay by this weekend, there is reptile show by me, should i take her there and have one of the leo breeders give her a once over so i dont have to take her to the vet, or when it gets out of hand, just go straight to the vet?

Thanks!
Michael

Has her condition on changed since you posted this question 4 days ago? Is she not eating? Is she lethargic or appear to be straining or in pain? I gave you some pointers when you posted this question 4 days ago, as well as when you emailed me... maybe she just isn't ready to lay them yet(?)

Michael,

How is your gravid female? Is she eating at all? Is she straining? If she hasn't eaten in a week, and appears to be having a real hard time, I would take her to a vet for an injection of oxytocin. It sometimes takes 2 injections a day or two apart. I just went through the same thing with one of my first-timers, and I had to give her a second injection. I was about to take her to the vet, and she finally laid her eggs.

If you need help finding a vet in your area, let me know.
