Yep there is, or at least courses around herpetology. UT has some... I just typed herpetology courses into google and go results.

Unfortunately most field biology/sub biology related courses are not in great demand for, so finding jobs is hard, and will probably be low paid government work

I hope so, or college is going to be pretty boring.

It doesn't look like herpetology is a degree you can earn but it is a section of biology and zoology. If you'd want to do something in herpetology you would probably want to take both classes.

here are some links i found about it.

Yes and no. At my school, UC Santa Cruz, you can create your own major. Here, there are also a few herpetology courses; but, I was told by an academic advisor that I should major in Biology.

There is no real "Degree" in herpetology...... I actually have a degree in biology specializing in reptiles and amphibians..... Most of my classes were herp based...... Feild trips and other hands on experiance are the highlights but there is lots of book work and in the begining has almost nothing to do with reptiles..... So there is your answer..... Actually if I did not have the degree and experiance working with hots I will not be able to keep what I keep..... The state I live in will be passing a law that will keep unqualified persons from getting a venomous permit...... I feel it is a very good move by my states fish and game.....

GaboonKeeper Feb 03, 2004 09:55 PM

degree in biology specializing in herps.... Short and to the point.....

StarGecko Feb 04, 2004 12:14 PM

In fact don't many states outlaw hobbyists from keeping venomous species?

Don't need a law to keep me from doing, no way in H&*^L would I want to keep venomous species...

Why do you keep venomous species anyway? Do you milk them and sell the venom?
