tank smells a bit musty

mbmcewen Feb 03, 2004 08:01 PM

I opened the door of my vent tank(no frogs yet) and it smells a little funky in there. I can't turn the fan on any higher or it will dry the tank out. Should I worry about it? If so, what can I do?

You might have a plant roting. I had a plant root and it smelled like death. Tank has been fine since.

you know, that might be it. One of my earth stars has lost all leaves but one. I left it in in case it could save itself but maybe not.

Thanks,

It doesn't smell like death but does smell musty. I only have 2 bromeliads, and an ivy in there with cork and lots of moss. It isn't anything rotting because it smelled like that since the second day I had it going. the water is on continuous flow. any ideas?

If the water in your false bottoms remain standing they can stagnate and cause a foul odor as well. My imitator tank does not drain off the water I have to remove it or it begims to smell. Just a possability.

How long does it take? This water has been in the tank less than two weeks.

I filled a big gap at the bottom of my background with lfs and it stayed wet from touching the water in the bottom. It started to mildew...no color just smell. I have removed it and hope it fixes the problem. Thing is though, I have water trickling down my background that touches moss also. What do I do if it starts to stink too? Anyone else have that problem?
