Dosing of flagyll for young boas.....roughly 100 grams, any help appreciated!!

I have a sneaky suspicion that a couple of my recently acquired boas may have internal parasites. Luckily still in quarantine, last year I took one of my colombian to the vet and he gave her one dose of flagyll and she bounced back tremendously. The boas in question seem like they are perfectly healthy, however their bellies feel a little soft and they were farm bred so I have concerns. My question is how do I dose them with flagyll. I see that the Bean Farm sells flagyll in 250 mg capsules, how do I go about fixing the dose for such small animals. I recall reading that recommended dose was somewhere around 50-75 mg per Kilogram. Is this correct?

Thank you in advance
Bob

Once you're there, scroll down to Metronidazole (that's Flagyl).

As a relative newbie, i want to thank you for the chart link! I am currently treating a couple of my bigger boas for a respiratory problem that they arrived with thru a purchase transaction. Thank God i have a great Herp vet in Mr.Kevin Fitzgerald (Emergency Vet fame) who takes care of my babies in a very caring manner. I am making him a copy of the chart too.
Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. susan

I thought the Feldmar chart was excellent and covered virtually all of the important drugs used in herpetoculture. I did have some additional comments on a few of his listings which may help. The dosages he listed for Amikacin and Gentamicin in snakes are correct except when treating blood pythons and short-tails. The dosages for these species should be cut in half, as the full dose has been show to be lethal in these snakes. Ciprofloxacin, or Cipro, only comes in a liquid form for intravenous use only. It cannot be injected intramuscular, subcutaneous, or intraperitoneal (IC on his chart). You can only use it in the pill form. Cipro is one of the best antibiotics available today for snakes. Not that anyone would ever use it as it is fairly obsolete, but I would highly discourage the use of Chloramphenicol. It is not highly effective in reptiles, and if any of it is left on the skin at the injection site, it will leave areas of destroyed skin tissue and scarring. Again, I think this is a highly useful chart. It probably covered 90% of the drugs that would typically ever be needed for use with reptiles.
