Question on bromeliads...

Justin M Feb 03, 2004 10:49 PM

I got some pretty nice lookin broms at Franks Nursery today and they were very cheap because the bloom was almost done. They has about 7 pups on each so I got em, but I was wondering about the bloom. Once it the flower part(top) starts turning brown and flaky but the stalk of the bloom is still green can I clip? Also, can I clip at all or do I have to let it run it's course? Any info will help because the brown flower looks very drab. Thanks!

You can clip the spent bloom, no prob. The mother plant will eventually "die" over the course of the next year or so.
