Treating for Mites

seablazer Feb 03, 2004 10:50 PM

Does anyone have a solid way of ridding a snake and enclosure of mites?

I have heard about Black Knight, but some ways that people explain to use it seems kinda harsh to the snake. Such as, I read that you should really fog the cage really good and just remove the water for 24 hours, but keep the snake in it. For some reason, this doesn't seem too healthy.

What else is there to get my green burm clean?? He just started today sitting in the water dish, so I'm hoping I've caught the mite infestation early.

Buy a can of Provent-a-mite and follow the directions on the label.

P.S. I have a helpful document written by an experienced herp veterinarian surveying various mite treatments (both recommended and not recommended). I'd be happy to send it to you (or anyone else) who emails me.

The Barkers have an excellant article about the different methods of eradicating mites. Got to vpi.com. It is towards the bottom of there website on the left side and is titled "The War on Mites." I found it to be very informative. Hope this helps, Todd
