Well reading up on everything everyone posted here i think i got a good idea on how to raise baby RES. My question is mainly about the setup and feeding. How excatly do you feed them like shrimps and stuff like that? I know the sticks just let them float in water.

For the setup are gravel something good to put in the tank. Any chance on the turtle swallowing it? Also i have a treefrog. if put in the same tank would the frog be eaten by the turtle?

Hi, you can't mix frogs with turtles, the turtle will kill the frog, and the toxins from the frog can kill your turtle. Gravel tends to make the tank dirtier by trapping the dirt, and smaller pieces can be swallowed. I use pieces of slate and some river rocks, and the turtles love pushing them around. All turtle food must be put in the water, turtles cannot swallow food on land. The only food my turtles ever took off of their basking spot was live crickets, they love them so much they will chase them on land and pull them back into the water.

Dsgngrl, what size is your tank? Just curious, it looks big!

Thx.

Its a 55 gallon, it is big enough for now, but in the summer we are going to build a pond in the backyard. Luckily, my turtles have really slowed down in there growing, they have been about 4 inches for about a year now.

a tip for keeping it cleaner is to feed your turtle outside it's tank.....get a rubbermaid tub & fill it with enough water to so the turtle is submerged & throw in food & i leave em for like a half hour to an hour. i give the wardley sticks in his home tank because they dont make too much of a mess just some crumbs that the guppy colony eat up anyway.& because i feed one at at time. but veggies & fruit etc. can make your tank real nasty so it's best to in another tub. my lil guy still doesn't eat too many veggies yet but i still give him the option

crickets & blood worms are some of his favorite foods
