Herp laws in VA?

VA-HERPER Feb 04, 2004 08:23 AM

I was wondering if anyone could give me a website or name of a book of reptile and amphibian laws in VA. I am an avid herper of south central VA and just would like to know about the laws, and cannot seem to find anything. I do have a book("A Field Guide To Reptiles And The Law"Revised Second edition by Levell) but it is copyrighted 1997{kinda old). Anyone have any ideas??

Laws for native reptiles are under Fish and WIldlife. Laws for non-native reptiles are under the animal code for the state.

What kinds of information do you need? Actually, very little has changed since 1997 with respect to wild reptiles in VA. You may have up to 5 of any native species without a permit, UNLESS those species are listed on the state Endangered, Threatened, or Species of Special Concern lists.

More information is on the VHS website.
