Has anyone had a positive experience with Big Apple's Desert Ray Heat Panels??

Hi Everyone,

I know that there must be quite a few people who have purchased the heat panels from Big Apple. They are priced way below the competitors. Their prices seem to good to be true...

I've seen a few negative comments, regarding them. Has anyone had a positive experience with them working effectively?

If so, what size cage were you heating and what size heat panel did you buy?

Thanks,

Susan P.

I've had a positive experience...

I didn't need any heat panel that would over heat my cage because my house never drops below 65 and even 65 is pretty rare.
I have one of thier larger ones running in my Knight Anole's cage.

The cage is 3ft tall by 2 ft deep and 4 ft wide.

the combination of the heat panel for rasing most of the ambient temp and a small $50 basking spost seems to give me a gradient of 90 degrees basking and about 75 towards the floor.

I guess the only "problem" that i see could happen is that its not exactly a solid panel. You need to have some form of support for it because it flexes alot. That and the fact that if you need to really crank up the heat you may need higher wattage than Big Apple Offers.

I have three of them the 23"x11". I have two of them in 6 foot long by 30 inches deep by 18 inch high cages. One in each cage mounted on the top of each cage. The third one is mounted to the top of a hood that I made for a 50 gallon aquarium. They are all ran through thermosats. I do keep my snake room at about 75 to 80 degrees with an oil filled heater. This way the heat panels don't have to work as hard. I haven't had any problems with them as of yet, but if I have to heat the cages without the room heater then I'd go with something higher watt rated. But this has just been my own experience and opinion sofar. Marty Hartman
