Venatu Boa?????

slitherduo Feb 04, 2004 12:46 PM

We have a pet shop near us who has had a snake for several months that they have labled a "Venatu Boa", and now a "Venatu Red Tail Boa". I have never seen another one like it, and have found nothing on the web about Venatu Boas. Can anybody help me out? Is this actually a correct common name for a Boa? Any online sites? Thanks.

knowing some pet shop people, that's probably a boa that came in a Venezuela shipment and they couldn't read the label or something..lol...
If they say it is a 'redtail boa', then it seems only possible to be a Venezuelan boa.. Venezuela is joined with Colombia

does it even look like a 'redtail' or common colombian boa in any way?

It looks nothing like any Boa constrictor I had seen before, which is why I have spent so much time trying to figure it out. But...I think I finally figured it out, at least partially. I had forgotten to look at the Candoia family. There is a Vanuatu Boa which is from the South Pacific Islands, like all the Candoias. I'm going tomorrow to examine the snake closely, get markings, coloration etc. to do a final ID on it. Your take on why they might have marked it the way they did sounds about like these idiots. They probably got Vanuatu and misspelled it, then for some stupid reason added "red tail" to the name becasue they either don't know there are other kinds of boas, or because they are trying to sell it faster.
