Are they housed together, maybe he's getting stressed out if they are together. Also hows the hides, are they small and tight and is the set up not too large.Sweater boxes are the way to go for baby bloods. What are you trying to feed him fk, ft, or live? Also try late night feedings. Also is there a lot of traffic and noise by him or are you handling him often. If so don't hold him untill he's eating good.

i feed them 1 adult mouse a week and he has been eating them with no problem until recently

Well, just so we're on the same page, could you please explain how you have your animals set up? i.e. cage size, basking temp, ambient temp, how you're monitoring the temps, substrate, hides (# and style) water availability, and other conditions in the room such as room temperature, access by people & other animals, noise, etc.

You'll probably have better success if you split your animals up into two separate enclosures - rubbermaid shoeboxes (the 3-gallon 2220 size are GREAT for younger bloods) will probably give you a good arrangement for setting them up individually, and will also allow you to monitor each one's progress more carefully.

What was your snake feeding on before it quit, and have there been any changes in his environment recently?

they are together in a 20 gallon tank with a small hidebox, water bowl and an area with moist moss and the basking spot in the tank is 85 and that is highest temp in any part of the tank. the other side of the tak isnt as hot and they both spend most of their time together in the moss and my female is doing fine but the male isnt eating. there hasnt been any redent changes in the tank and there isnt alot of noise around and im the only one who goes in the room where they are at and i frequently hold them so they wont get mean but when i feed them i dont hold them until about 48 hours or more later so i dont think im doing anything wrong but i am very concerned about him

Personally I would split the two up and give them two hides one on the hot and one on the cool end.Dont mess with him untill he starts eating a few good meals. Also I would put them in a sweater box.I used to keep them in a ten gallon aquarium when they are babies, but the rubbermaids are so nice and easy to maintain humidity and they aren't see through.3 weeks isn't that bad yet with out eating, so try a new set up for him and try after a week or so to feed him a rat pup or a mouse.Let us know what you do and if it's working.

i was just thinking. could it be because it is winter time that he isnt eating and he is trying to hibernate or somthing??

fishkiller Feb 04, 2004 03:39 PM

Normally not in bloods, cooling them down to breed and not feeding would be typical, your case is different.Just split them apart and don't hold him, and go from there.Baby bloods do this all the time, even mine have done this and gone a month and 1/2 with out eating. Some are easy and some just drive you nuts even when your doing everything right.

thank you very much fishkiller you have helped me alot! but i have one more question. will blood pythons that do this eventually get hungry enough to eat or could they get so stubbern that he will starve themselves? and i dont have any rubber maid contaiers so will a 10 gallon do good for now?

fishkiller Feb 04, 2004 06:25 PM

They could starve themselves, also they could even have internal parasites which causes them to not eat.I had my first blood python die like this, which only ate twice in about two months. The vet treated him, but was too late.10 gallon will be fine, make a top for it so it's not a screen top to hold humidity.I made one out of wood and plexiglass with cut outs for my overhead ceramic heat emitter, cause it gets cold in the garage at night. Also KLG knows a lot, she's from NERD, new england reptiles distributors.Oh one more thing, tape some newspaper to the outside so he's more secure.Good luck and get that nice black blood eating. Later, Ethan

Here's my baby sarawak in the 10 gallon set up.Shes still in there untill almost a year old.I have my other baby bloods in a rubbermade and I don't even have to mist as much as this 10 gallon to keep up the humidity.2 hides and 1 water bowl.

i just got done treating him for any problems because he was making weezing noises and after treating him he ate 2 meals and since then he hasnt eaten anymore

fishkiller Feb 04, 2004 06:37 PM

What did you treat him with. Also if he does have an RI infection did he have any discharge from his nostrols? Also you definatly want to keep each away from each other as he can give what he has to your other snake. If you just treated him that's probably why he's not eating. You don't think the weazing is just him huffing and puffing because they do make that weazing sound alot.Especially when they've had enough of you holding them.Well I'm sure other people will give you their thoughts not just mine and help also.I've got to go now unitll tomorrow.Hope everything works out. Later

yeah i treated both of them for resperatory problems and they were both doing fine but now he isnt eating
