Promblems! poop, behavior, and eggs.

lostkauze Feb 04, 2004 02:59 PM

My female who just laid is extremely skittish, and im not sure if thats normal, but thats the least of my worries. My other (third one) female, is having her second time of egg laying, and appears to only have one. (she is shedding now, is that normal? she also shed lasttime when she was going to lay. last time she laid her eggs a few days apart, which i found strange, but was fine afterwards.) but anyways, i got home today from school and checked on my leos like i always do. but today if the bathroom area of their tank, i found a watery white goo-ish poop. it looked like a squirt of glue about the sizze of a nickle. i became very worried and checked my lizards. The gravid female which we talked about earlier seems to look fine with both eggs still visible, however, my third female (who is shedding) has only one egg. I'm thinking this may be a bad egg that passed thought her system, or should i be more concerned?

Thanks so much for your help/advice.

Was there just one egg to begin with? Or is it a remaining egg. I have had females carry anf lay one egg alone. As well as carrying 2 eggs and laying them weeks apart. Mind you when this happens the second egg is usually infertile.

no, there was two originally, i think... hope...

More than likely she will lay within the next week. I'd have to say the egg may be infertile. Was the first one fertile ot not?

As for the poop I'd say have a fecal done by the vet asap.

the first batch were infertile, but im most concerned about the feces.

More than likely she will lay infertile eggs for the rest of the season. I wouldn't be worried about the egg unless she doesn't lay within the next 2 weeks.

As for the poop, once again get a fecal done. It may just be a diet issue but then again it could be parasites or a virus.

Michael, I just responded to your email with a list of reptile vets in your area. It is not uncommon for females to only have one egg, and they can lay them a day or two apart. They can be skittish before and after egg laying, too. What concerns me is the whitish substance you saw in the area where they defecate. This can indicate that an egg has ruptured, and if that is the case she should see a veterinarian. If the yolk from the egg stays insider her oviduct, it may become septic and she could get an infection.

Keep us posted.
