lighting - bulbs...

iso Feb 04, 2004 03:33 PM

Hello all

simple Q

are BDs smart enough not to touch a light bulb in their enclosure? Example - I never let my snakes have a chance to touch the bulb as they will coil around it.

reason I am asking - I am building new cages. My monitors never touch the bulb - so I was going to hang it in the cage..however, I was wondering if BDs are "dumb" enough to hurt themselves with one..

thanks!

yes, beardies can hurt/burn themselves with bulbs. The main thing is to keep them high up so they can't reach them. My cages are all two feet high, and some of my lights come down to about 18 inches from the ground and never had a problem with them touching the bulbs ever, or even trying to reach towards them. I'm sure it could happen, and i would just be safe, and take precautions to prevent it. Maybe making a fence type thing around the fixtures to keep the acctual skin from touching the bulbs themselves. Also keeping the basking lights low to the ground in a shorter tank will keep them out of reach. Just might have to up the wattage to get the proper temps at a lower basking hight.
