the plant is outing the cage, so i see what the cham is doing every second it is on the plant - so far no soil eating - lol

Well, in that case...don;t bother to cover the soil. If he is eating it for some reason then the suggestion from Kim and John to your earlier post are good ones. Keep in mind if you cover with stones or moss don't overwater. The rocks/moss will help retain moisture so you will have to water less...or you will, again, have a moldy/dead plant
