Activity Levels of new Ball Python

subs1682 Feb 04, 2004 06:38 PM

Hey all I am new to the forum. I have a simple question about the activity level of my snake. I have had him since 2/1 and was wondering if it was normal for him to be slightly inactive at first. I am used to kings and milks which seem to make themselves at home pretty readily.

Some ball pythons spend much of their time comfortably coiled in tight hide areas; perfectly natural. Being a nocturnal animal, you may be missing most of the activity periods of your snake. I have found some bp's to be very active during the day while others are shy and retiring; just depends on the individual snake. I just got another ball last friday and he's the same way! Just give him/her some time and it should settle in. It's a good idea to let them sit around for a while before handling, at least a few days. The other thing to remember is they are nocternal, I dont' see mine at all right now during the day, but at night it's pretty active (usually after I go to sleep). I expect this to change a bit, once it gets acustom to it's enclosure.
