I recommend picking an iguana from a rescue. There are many unwanted iguanas out there and the rescues give many choices as to size, age, sex, attitude, etc. Eventhough iguanas from rescues sometimes may not be the prettiest (scars on missing digits) a lot of rescues can assure you good health complete with vet papers. Just a suggestion. I know that when we adopt out, I always assure health to the person that is adopting the ig. Unfortunately, I don't have any that are ready to be adopted out at this time.

I never recommend buying from pet stores to anyone. Only because there are soooooo many iguanas out there in rescues it's unbelievable. That's all.

Check with local rescues. Most rescues work with vets and take care of medical issues. I know mine does. To find a rescue in your area, check with the rescue network here on pet hobbyist.com.

Land of the Outcasts!

Igs grow to be 4 feet and many times weigh more than 10 pounds. They need a huge habitat, and are very costly to set up! My ig lives in a spare bathroom! If you do not handle them they can be viscious! We knew a woman who had her thumb severed by a hormonal male! Think twice about getting an ig!
