Albino Balls

willis1234 Feb 04, 2004 07:48 PM

I was just trying to take a survey because I was thinking about getting a male and female 100% het for albino and breeding them. I was going to sell this babies really cheap on kingsnake for about 900 each for albinos. I was wondering how many people would buy them at that price. Thanks.

I tell you what, you produce albino balls, and I'll buy everyone for $1,000 each, sell them for the going market price, and donate the profit to your county's Mental Heatlh Association.
I belive your post is to goat people who work hard at what they do, breeding high end ball python morphs. Your attempt at humor lacks any remorse.
If your honest in your your statements, you either have no conscept on how a free market works, or you never bred a reptile in your life, and just want some attention.
I'll leave others to make that determintion.

I know what the price that albino balls usually sell around and know that the price I mentioned was extremely low. Also actually I have bred a fair ammount of reptiles for my age. All I was trying to do is sell them for less because im not seeking a huge profit off of these snakes. I am only 15 soon to be 16 and dont need that kind of money. I just wanted to know if anyone would buy them because I dont want to spend $1000 on two snakes and have no one buy the babies so I cant regain the money I spent.

The signature in your previous post listed the reptiles you own I assume?

There is not one pair in there. What have you bred before?

A lot of people will look down upon you for undercutting the market esp so drastically. Albinos right now are going for avg. $2200.

But they are your snakes, and your reputation. Do what you may.

my friend has a female bearded dragon that we breed and another red tail that we breed. I have also bred two corn snakes that i used to have. I am sorry if i got any of you upset I was just trying to see if anyone would buy them because i didnt think i could sell them at full price.

Someone without a name/reputation might find it hard to sell a $2500 snake but I don't think you'd need to cut the price by that much. I think you'd find a buyer that same day you posted if you only took off 20% or so.

In the end, I'd rather sell my snakes for what they are worth in stead of just flipping them for a quick buck. See if they sell and if they don't, then drop the price a bit.

But, like it was mentioned, prices and demand may have changed by the time your pair reproduces for you and you hit that 1/4 shot.... Who knows?

If you don't need the money, then why breed the albino at all?

Personally, if albino ball pythons cost around $1,000, then I would by one and keep it as a pet. $2,500 is a bit much to spend for a single animal that would not be breed. Really a personal choice though.

If only one or two people in the nation sell for that much less, it won't hurt the market... You won't produce enough animals to meet the demand. However, you run the risk of people thinking that there is something wrong with the animal. Think about it. You spend over $3,000 to get an albino producing pair. Then you spend 3 years raising the critters. Then you consider your investment time and money to be worth 1/3 the cost you sold for.

Alternatively, who knows what the market price for an albino will be in 3-4 years. I don't think it will drop much, but it might for non-established breeders.

3k for a pair of hets?

BoulderBalls Feb 04, 2004 10:47 PM

My bad. Thought that the original poster said an albino male and a 100% het female. I was figuring $2,200-$2,500 for the male. $700 for the female.

jyohe Feb 05, 2004 06:34 PM

you can get hets for alot less than 1000$ and you can sell babies for more than $900.....

yes you'll make money............

buy hets for $600-800 tops.......

sell albinos for $1500 or so.........

have fun.........

yep

I am expecting three clutches of albino balls this season. This is my first year producing them. I am an unknown in this industry AND I WOULD NOT GO NEAR THAT LOW simply because I know I can get more than that. I am offering my albino offspring and 100% het albinos for about 75% of Bob Clark's listed price on 2004 albinos. Bottom line is that $900, at least this year, is just crazy low. WHY GO THAT LOW? WHY? WHY? WHY? When you could sell them just as fast (if not faster- people will think something's wrong with them) at $1500?

snakelady Feb 07, 2004 03:09 PM

We make our market here and sell to a relatively limited number of people nation wide; so doing something like that would indeed sell - But it would be bad on business for others, and for yourself. I'd suggest not knocking it down that far, but if you feel the need to do something along those lines then try checking the average market price and knocking $200-$500 off your own price... It'd be like a sale but not undermine the structure of this industry so much.
