HELP!!! blood in distress, my blood has been doin wonderful since i got her, but here recently as turn'd for the worste, her skin is becoming loose and is extremely dry feeling and faded looking, she hasnt ate for the past 2 weeks and jsut hasnt been the same, i was thinkin maybe dehydration but she has plenty of water that she used to drink and lay in but she has no intention on doing so now, i am taking steps to try and raise the humidty to see if that improves her health any suggestions would be great

A little more info is needed. What are you keeping her in, what are her temps, and humidity levels. The skin doing that signals an enviornment that is not humid enough and could also stress. Try putting her in a rubbermaid container and raising humidity to around 80 percent with temps in the mid 80's. If you dont already have a monitor for temp and humidity you can pick a decent digital one up from Wal Mart for $15 , it monitors temps on both sides of the cages and humidity...

well she was in a way to large cage 6 ft by 3 and so on, i just moved her into a 20gal and i keep her temps around 85 on one side and a lil lower on the other, im making pieces to cover the mesh to help hold in humidity and tape newspaper around the cage so she cant see out, i got two hide spots one on either side

my baby black blood is not eating neither but his skin is ok but i was just wondering..how do i get the tank heated with a towel over the top to keep moisture in because i have a towel to keep the moisture in and i have a heating pad but i dont think the pad will make it hot enough so what do i do?

this is a pic of him

thas a nice baby blood you got there and i hope everything goes well for you with it, i was also wondering the same about the towel on the top the cage, i have a undertank heater but i kno it does not produce enough heat, should i just cover the entire top with a towel except for a spot for my heat lamp

If she didnt go into blue then its not shed, their skin only gets wrinkly for about a day right before they shed. The condition described is due to lack of humidity. Go get a rubbermaid...I repeat go get a rubbermaid! Both of you! Not sure on yours size but nothing that is longer than the snake (babies get stressed out by having too large containers). The shoebox size containers are great for small babies. Put a few little holes in the top for ventalation and then set it up the heating like you have your 20 G....put a hide box on the hot side and a water bowl paper towels work great for substrate as well ..if its a small blood a 20g is too large of a container anyways. You also need to have something monitoring temps and humidity. You can get a rubbermaid and a temp/humidity guage at Wal Mart for under $20 ...its not a big investment

well she is shedding her skin, not in one piece but she's starting to shed it, but i do believe part of the problem is the humidity, umm if i do use a rubermaid, how would i go about heating it?

jordanm Feb 06, 2004 03:26 PM

My bloods rarely shed in one peice, I think its hard for them to because of their body shape. Put a wet dishrag in there with the snake and it should help with shedding. As far as heating a rubbermaid just use conventional methods...undercage heating pads heat lamps ect. I have my 6mo baby in a larger rubbermaid with a 40w bulb on top and a 8w heat pad and it keeps the temps perfect. This would probably overheat a smaller container however. Set up the rubbermaid and monitor conditions for a day or two before you move the snake to make sure they are ok...you might have to do some tweaking to holes in the top to keep humidity down and heating. Buy a temp and humidity monitor...I repeat buy a temp and humidity monitor!
