Out of pinheads...

cacogen Jun 07, 2003 10:30 PM

I have a beardie that's about 3 to 4 weeks old. I went to the pet store today to buy it pinheads and they only had about a dozen and a half left. he'll probably eat them all tomorrow and the pet store isn't getting any more in until tuesday.
If i leave viggies or greens in his tank will he eat it or should i try to chop up regular sized crickets?

why do you feed him pinheads i mean my juvi albino leopard geckos are bigger almost the same size as hatchling beardies and they can easily take 1/4 or 1/2 inch crickets. Just up to another size or you could just keep him on veggies. 2 days won't hurt him whatever its up to you.

Out of everything i've read so far i've been told not to feed them anything bigger than the lenght between their eyes. I have a marbled gecko and he can go for a few days without eating but he isn't a baby beardie...

just wondering if baby food is something i should try feeding him (or her, not really sure yet) and just so i'm sure we its human baby food right?

Yes human baby food can be used in a pinch. Chicken is a commonly used one. You can mix it with a little veggie baby food, and drip it on the nose. the beardie should lick it off. If you have an eye dropper or a needless syringe it's a bit easier. Just add a little of the supplements you use to dust in the mix, and add water if needed.

Meat flavored baby food is fine, but if they have quarter inch crickets, they should be small enough for him. He may not take greens at that age, so in that case get him some babyfood.

I have cut crickets in half before for my bearded dragon and he ate them anyway. I would however try and get the wingless crickets (ie have not grown full sized wings of the adults) as these still don't have as heavy an exoskeleton. Size wise, anything under an inch cut in half should not pose much danger to the young bearded dragon.

Small waxworms could be used as well but they tend to be very fatty.
