Dont suppose there would be .... custom cages...

oogieboogie Feb 04, 2004 09:46 PM

Dont suppose there would be a market for custom BD cages would there?

Would anyone be interested in a custom cage like the one I made for my BD's? If so about how much would someone pay for something like that?

Not even sure if its feasable to ship. But Ive found some premade cabinets with oak finish on the front that I can gut and turn into some bueatiful cages.

That is a very nice looking cage. i'm in the process of drawing up some plans on a cage but i haven't even though about the inside yet. i got some very good ideas from your website! Thanks!

and very creative by using an old dressor. great idea!

My guess would be yes, given the amount of interest folks have in building them. I am certain that folks would love one premade for them, such as your dresser cage. (Which is very nice, BTW) Perhaps make 3 or 4, take photos and go to your local reptile show and see if anyone's interested. If you can get a local market, there would be no reason to ship!

I would think shows would be the way to go with those too. Shipping would be a fortune.
Now,, not to try to discourage you but....
When it comes down to it,, not too many people are willing to fork out much cash for anything but the animals them selves. There are a lot of inexpensive caging out there "Twin Oaks" tanks etc. I do wood burnings & you can get complements, ouuu's & ooooo's all day, but 99.9 % of the people keep walking after they "get your ideas".

Long story short, I think you'll find that it's hard to get much of anything over the "cost" of supplies. "People are cheap!" They will fight over them if they were free, but as soon as you put a price tag on, it's a different story.

The only way to find out for sure would be to, make a couple, rent a table at the next local show & see what happens.

Good luck.

Here are a few of my burnings. "I did get a nice anery Honduran female for these burnings" lol

I have been picturing in my mind, a large! Wall piece. Some day. I don't know about your glass work but I know the burnings take so much time & have so much detail, it's very hard to get what you put into them (cash value that is) I have only sold a couple, the rest have been donated, given as gifts, or traded for animals.

So when do we get to see some of your work??????

Later.

I do agree that the shipping part would be the major barrier, but what about making independent, free standing rock formations that people could place in their existing enclosures? You would be able to ship them and I do believe there would be a good market for them since the premade things you find at a pet store suck. You could make them in a variety of sizes and styles with multiple levels and caves.

I would buy one so long as the price was within reason and it had a look I wanted. I've been planning on building some but I would probably pay just to save myself the hassle since I don't have a garage or anything a project like this.

Curious where you got the rock formations?

oogieboogie Feb 05, 2004 10:07 PM

I made them myself. I have a nice long explanation on the website i made. Check my sig.

So I go to Home Depot looking for Polystyrene. First words on it say Combustible and flamible. This worries me. I'd like to know if you have had any problems with this and what your using to avoid this since it will ignite with a reg 60 watt light bulb, experimented with it myself in the front yard this afternoon.

oogieboogie Feb 08, 2004 11:18 PM

Try igniting it with 4 layers of tile grout over it. o)

It hasnt caught fire on me yet. Nor anyone else who has used it.
