College studen on the fast trek to professional hobo

paradisio Feb 04, 2004 10:18 PM

See, I can't spell! ;p

Seriously, just a college student going for graphic design.

Demona Feb 04, 2004 10:31 PM

Hey! College student in graphic design...that's what I do!

Where do you go to school? I go to Illinois State.

paradisio Feb 04, 2004 10:36 PM

I go to HCC... don't laugh at me...

Demona Feb 04, 2004 10:54 PM

HCC? Heartland?

paradisio Feb 04, 2004 10:55 PM

Houston

Demona Feb 04, 2004 10:56 PM

Ohhh..ok. I thought you were naming a college that is in the same town as my school. Same acronym.

Anyway, have fun with that graphic design stuff...I know I love it!

paradisio Feb 04, 2004 11:01 PM

Too bad I can't ever find work doing it... IE: becoming a hobo

I can do 3d desgin, 2d design, advertising, website design, computer repair, and digital publishing. Not to mention I can type 70 WPM, have experience in computers/networks, and can use almost all microsoft office products... And yet I spend about 20 hours a week looking for jobs unsuccessfully, I never even get interviewed

Demona Feb 04, 2004 11:07 PM

That's weird, though I think some of my peers have been having a hard time finding jobs as well. They're all getting ready to graduate and can't find anything. I'm gonna go to grad school, so I'm just delaying the inevitable.

...or I'll become a professor and make no money that way too. *shrug* That's what we art majors get for being....well, art majors.

jensinger Feb 05, 2004 03:34 AM

College student here in the freezing state of Ohio. And I spend my non-free time working at a pet store and buying any good looking leos that come in. We had a jungle in that came in with our regulars. $17 after discount. Good deal.

Night Job: Work on a billboard, changing messages.

Also own my own business (Intense Herpetoculture), do some landscaping (ponds, texas native planst, organics, etc.) on the side, and run a non-profit organization (Bat Conservation Project). Plus got a million (ok, maybe not quite that many) other projects on the side.

Currently I am a US Army Ranger Instructor in the FL phase of Ranger School, teaching combat operations and survival in a costal swamp environment. Recently since breakiing my pelvis on a parachute jump I have been assigned to the US Army Snake Team. We teach classes on the venomous snakes found here in the US and elsewhere. To military personnel, as well as the general public(boy scouts, girl scouts, etc.)We also help zoo keepers get experience with venomous reptiles. That's my day job, at night I am working on my MCSE certification, so that when I possibly retire in 2 years (the big 20) I will be able to be a contributing member of society...lol. If I can get it done before I rotate back to Spec Ops and Iraq.

Justyn and Alice I want your jobs...lol

Day time: Fiber optic tech.... Because of me you have high speed internet, digital cable, and free long distance calls......LOL....... Unfortunately I am not "working" in the biology field anymore....... Not enough money in what I wanted to do..... I did however work in 2 zoos...... I was the head of the venomous reptile house in one of them for 6 years..... I also breed venomous snakes and I am currently working with 20 species of scorpion and obviously a few leopard geckos...... It helps to pay a few bills.....

shuler06 Feb 05, 2004 03:03 PM

So Gab, can I blame you when my cable/DSL is slow?

Well, I was a Chemical Engineer for 26 years before I became disabled with a serious neuroimmune disease as well as spinal spodylosis. Now, I am a leopard gecko breeder (not a whole lot of profit, it just makes my life more meaningful) as well as a minister. I am not a pastor at my church, but I do a lot of work in grief recovery there as well a hospital chaplain with chronically and terminally ill patients and their families. I also do lots of weddings and memorial services when my health will allow it.
