Any albino health problems?

BoulderBalls Feb 04, 2004 10:51 PM

I know that in many species, the albino gene causes health issues. Has anyone noticed this in ball pythons?

Is an albino born from two homozygous albinos parents more likely to have health issues than one born from two hetrozygous albino parents?

Unlike with albino boas, there doesn't seem to be problems appearing from breeding albino balls together. In general though, inbreeding does increase the odds of recessive deliterious genes expressing themselves, especially genes that are located near the gene responsible for albinism. In the case of one generation of inbreeding the odds increase by 25%.

I have never heard of any health problems associated with albino ball pythons and all of my albino and het albino balls seems to be in excellent health.
