HELP!!! my gecko won't eat

lizzylizard Feb 05, 2004 04:18 AM

Rex, my luistic leopard gecko is almost four years old. For about the last five months his eating habbits have decreased to him eating near nothing. He used to happily eat 5-10 crikets every couple of days, he now refuses to eat them.

I started feeding Rex canned crikets about a year ago, allternating with live ones. It was just easy to use them if I couldn't make it to the pet store or something. I think he got lazy because he won't go for the live ones anymore. However, a few months ago he pretty much stopped eating the canned ones as well. Up untill a week ago he hadn't eaten in almost a month. I decided to try mealworms, and thankfully he ate one. But thats it, one mealworm in a month. I am really worried, I have talked to all the pet stores, and there are no vets who see reptiles here.

He still looks very healthy, his tail is nice and fat, and his colors are bright. He has become a bit lathargic though and hides almost all of the time. Any help would be appreciated

I have an undertank heater and a basking light it usually between 85- 90 in there. I am usuing gravel in there right now, I was just told recently about the effects it can have. It is the special kind that says it doesn't cause impaction, and I have used since I got him, but I'm thinking this might be the cause. If it is what can I do? thanks for your reply,

It could be, if it can fit in their mouth, they can swallow it and get impacted...

I would take it to a vet...

Or it just might now be eating as much because of the winter

If you are sure that your leo has not eaten in a month, and your temps are correct, you need to take him to a vet.
