Mexican giant leaf frog

amyjk Feb 07, 2003 11:34 AM

I recently purchased one of these beautiful frogs and have been keeping it fairly "dry" But while I was searching for even more info, I found conflicting advice, saying they should be kept at 80-99% humidity.....was just wondering if anybody has these kind of frogs and how have they been keeping them. Mine seems happy and is eating well.

First I must tell you how jealous I am - I must get one of these gorgeous froggies for myself, as soon as I have the space! Someone contacted me awhile back for an ID on a new frog they had and this was the species and I researched their care for him. From my understanding, they are semi-tropical to tropical frogs and therefore should not be kept dry, but quite the opposite require high humidity at or above 80%. Since I don't have any experience keeping them personally, someone please correct me if I am wrong. I'll include a link to a care page on them which I do believe covers their proper care guidelines accurately. Hope this helps and congrats on your new frog!
Mexican Leaf Frog Care Sheet

Tahnk you Becki, that is where I found my "conflicting" info. Sandfire dragon ranch say they require a dry enclosure with misting in morning and evening. and you should allow the enclosure to dry out in a couple hours. Oh, also, I believe reptile paradise may be in the wrong because if you look at the care sheet for waxy monkeys it says the same thing, that they need to be at 80-99% humidity, which I believe is incorrect, so now I'm not sure what to do! I'm still looking for anybody with personal experience with these, or if anybody can find any other info on them....thanks!

Do not keep your mex leafs at 80-90 percent humidity. Keep them about 60 with occasional mistings or only a small water bowl. Too much moisture will harm them. Hank
