A question for Neil about Identifying species ***Tail shapes different

eve Feb 05, 2004 10:53 AM

Hi,

My pair of U. henkeli , I have recented taken notice that my CB male Barkley has a very pretty wide shaped leaftail.

Where as the wc female I received, a while back, Sindar, has a more slender, elongated looking leaftail, is this just the difference between the sexes?

Or are their tails all, a bit different in shape? As these are the only two I have to go by.

I was just wondering if by any chance one may be frimbratus ?
Thanks,

Eve

Both of your guesses are correct. There is a fair bit of variation in tail shape, however males often have longer, wider tails. Most fimbriatus have striped eyes at night.

at her eyes, I don't really think I have noticed them being striped though, as I go in almost wevery night to give them water.

She Sindar, the wc girl, gets very excited when I mist at night.
She runs up to the top. So I tried dripping dropplets of water with an eyedropper for her.

She now waits for it at night. And comes over to me.

Very awesome, I enjoy our little time together each night, as the male has begun to join in.

If you need another one let me know, however, I think you can see just how distinct the red stripes are even at this angle.

Awesome fimbriatus. I think that is the best one i have ever seen. What species of uroplatus do you keep/breed and are you planning on having any babies available for sale?

I keep U.phantasticus and U.fimbriatus. So far I have been able to breed phantasticus, but I am still working on fimbriatus. Hopefully I will be able to produce a far amount of f2 phantasticus this up comming season. We will just have to wait and see!

Steve

P.S. I need to get pictures of my two female fimbriatus, they are even bigger then the male pictured!!!!
