permits for herps in Louisiana

griffin Feb 05, 2004 12:59 PM

From the bits and pieces of info I have gathered from the vague rules and regulations, it is my understanding that you only need a permit for possession of non-native contrictors over 12 ft in length and venomous snakes. What type of permit is this? Is it simply a hunting/fishing license?

Also, some states require permits if you are going to sell herps. Does the state of LA require this?

thanks,
griffin

I too would like definite answers to this. At one point in time I was interested in importing a pair of snakes, but the complication of paperwork changed my mind.

I know that there is a simple $25 (possibly $50) liscense if you plan to engage in commercial activities of reptiles.

I know that to have large boas and venemous snakes, they need to be cleared on the CITES listings, and you may need a CITES permit.

Sorry I can't be more help, but good luck to you.
