Lost snake tips?

chicagopsych Feb 09, 2003 02:46 PM

I just loss a baby albino nelson. I have never had a snake escape before (about 12 years of snake keeping) and I have now had two baby albino milks escape in a one year period! I heard that they were escape artist, but this is crazy. Does anyone have any tips on finding him? Are the odds of finding him pretty remote? Thanks guys

By the way, I'm now in the market for an adult or subadult albino Nelson

All I can say is just keep an eye out. One time I lost a baby corn (you know how small those are). This was in the middle of winter too. after a month and half went by no snake. well I went out to start my car one morning after it had snow. As I stepped out thye door, I just happened to look down and right by the heal of my boot, was my baby cornsnake all curled up on the doorstep!!!! lucky I didn't step on him.

Also try leaving some live food in a cup around the floor, and check periodically at night when lights are off. sometimes they will come back to feed if still around.

good luck

Hey, thats really good that you dident lose any in 12 years!! I have lost so many reptiles its depressing, My first snake (many years ago) got lose (my mom hated and still hates snakes) but i found it a few hours later near the cage, it was a gater snake that i cought. A few months later my first ribbon snake got lose but it passed me as i came up the steps, i was a little shocked (i wasent very old), and cought him, but i had a iguana get lose out side once, and my 2 foot gator a few year ago dug out of his pond. And i have had a milk snake get lose a few times, but he got away for good on his 3rd try. But more recent, my 3 foot spotted python got lose for 4-5 days, i looked every were, but one night when i was asleep, something woke me up, and i just went back to sleep, in the morning he was asleep on under my shirt! I have no idea how he got up there, my bed is like a buck bed but with no bottom. You can try to put flower on the courners of the room he got lose in, and lose tape on its back, so it will stick to him and some what of a trale, but all that will only let you know if he is still in that part of the house. You can also take a 2 letter bottle and put a few small holes in it (barly big aounth for him to fit) and put some live pinkeys/fuzzys in it. And you may want to put a live pinkey in a bow and put it in the courners in your house, and check it the next day. The main thing you want to find is in what generle area he is in, and that will help alot. Well good luck! Let us know when you find him.
