I bought my boyfriend a blue tegu in November (he was this year's clutch) so he's about 5-6 months old. When we first got him he was the most angry, unruly, and outright mean animal I've owned. Just walking into the room would make it jump up, hiss, and wiggle it's tail. He would run at my hand and jump to bite me if I messed with anything in his cage. We can now hold it without fear of it biting, let it sit on our shoulders (which we won't able to do for long). I have a hooded sweatshirt with a pocket in front for your hands. i like to let it sleep in there after I wake it up in the morning... The main thing that helped was taking him out to feed him in the bath tub. By holding him to the point that he calmed down he became less and less aggressive. It took him along time to get used to cage and used to us being around. After that he wouldn't freak out as much from us being around but if you attempted to get anywhere near him he would revert back to his old behavior. Now the only time he is fiesty is when we first take him out (you have to catch him because we've already put him in his full size cage which is 4x4) but he never bites anymore, just struggles and hisses. So if you're having the same problem I did just be patient. Taming an animal and earning its trust doesn't happen over night.

Also...when we first got Dante he got out of his temporary cage which wasn't tall enough a couple of times. One time I found him sleeping in my bed under my pillow out of all the places he could of hid in that room.
