The albino morph is called so because of the gene that causes a lack of dark pigmentation......

I don't know where the term albinism comes from originally...but albinism is a recessive gene in which a defective protein is created and no melanin is produced by the body...i.e. no black pigmentation in produced. Albinism can occur in any species of animal (I believe...I know there are many species it doesn't occur in...but since it happens in so many, it is almost surely a fairly common mutation and could happen in just about any species). The fact that there are different strains suggests that multiple either multiple proteins are needed to produce melanin, or that there are several loci on chromosomes that can affect the protein that is needed to produce melanin. I could be off base here...this is just me thinking out loud...lol...anyone else have any thoughts?
