well i knew it would happen one of these days. It only took a month. heres the story

Well today was feeding day for my snake well the amel cuz the normal just regurged so hes got to wait a few more days. I put the one f/t pinky in and she ate it from my hand. I stuck he next one in after the had eaten the other and put the lid on the sterilite container i feed in and went and ate dinner. About 20 minutes later i came back and she had eaten the second so i figured id put her back into her 10g and let her digest. well nomaly she dosent object to me just picking her up and placing me in her cage. WELL today she did, i reached in and wham she latched on to my index finger. My fist reaction was not to pull away i learned this field herping cuz if you pull away you rip their little teeth out. Well she let go pretty quick i guess she was just saying "you better leave me alone [bleep]" haha. i laughed after i got her back into the cage.

well just though id share this with you all

later
Jon

You might want to rethink the whole "eating it from my hand" thing. I have fed a few of my snakes a few times from my hand or even while holding the snake in my hand...BUT...You really don't want the snake associating your HAND with mealtime. You may have just gotten a "I'm still in feeding-mode" response from a snake who is learning that your hand=mealtime. Cute and funny now...but in a few years, not so much. Think about it. :D

I used to hand feed my W/C black rat snake. Well when he was just a hatchling, no problems. Never mistaked my hand for food, never bit or anything. Always took the pinks/fuzzies very gently from my fingers. Well at about 2 years old and alot bigger, he no longer "gently" takes the mouse. Even though he has been fed F/T just about his entire life, he now will hit the mouse super hard and fast, just like my kings!! So no way am I going to try and feed him out of my hand now!! LOL So now I just put him in his feeding container and throw his food in with him. I usually give him about 15 min after he eats to get out of "feed mode", and wash my hands good with soap and hot water. I do this with all my snakes and have never been bitten. (knocking on wood). Malikai, my albino black rat, still will take a nip at me every once in a while, but that is just his personality. He has been that way since he was a hatchling. That is why I named him Malikai, after the red headed mean little SOB from the movie "Children of the Corn"!!LOL

this happened to me with my jungle carpet python.she is about 4 feet long. i put her in a seperate container to feed her and went to pick her up after she ate to put her back into her bigger tank and she went for me. i think it was becasue she was in feeding mode and thought my hand was a mouse. if you have any traces of mice smell on your hands they know and assume you are the mouse and strike out. i feed my jcp in her big tank now and haven't had any more problems of getting bit. my corns have never struck at me but sometimes my amel will 'taste' my fingers when i'm holding her. i usually feed her a day or two after she does that, then she is fine.
