How many in an enclosure that is 3' by 2' by 2'?

roachey56 Feb 05, 2004 06:50 PM

The enclosure would have a surface area of 864 sq. in. It would also be the equivilent of a 89 gallon aquarium

My main question is-
How many females could i house together in it?
how many females with one male?

Just remember the 10 gallon each rule if you hav a tank that big maybe about 8 or 9 females

actually you enclosure is about a 70 gallon with the actual gallons being 67.32467532467533 gallons. Why don't you think i would be able to have 8-9 geckos in it comfortably?

damn that's big!!! You could probably keep about a hundred (1.99 ...lol) in there given they had enough hiding spaces...that's crazy big! That would be one happy male...

StinaUIUC Feb 05, 2004 07:00 PM

whoops...wow where was my head just now...lol I'd say you could probably happily house at least 10 (I don't know why I was thinking 1 per gallon...lol). All the same, if you can keep 3 in a 20L I don't see why you couldn't expand a little past the 1/10 gallon rule (though not up to a hundred geckos...lol). so I'd think you could definitely get away with one male and 9 or 10 females. ...given enough hiding spaces of course.

well i have read that you should have 10" by 10" for each gecko. so figuring that out correctly you could house either 8 or 9 geckos.

I keep one male in each. But I wouldn't think twice about putting 2-3 females in with each of them.
Some day I'll probably have enough females to do that. I've found that if you give them room, they'll use it.

My 4'x2'x16" tank has another lone male in it, and he's always exploring. Every night I go in the room to check on him he's sneaking around in a different spot
much better than when he was in the 33 gallon aquarium

I don't really like the '10 gallon rule' because it is floor space you need to worry about.
You could have a tank that is 12x12 inches, and 15 feet tall, it would be huge volume wise, but you couldn't even keep one leo in it.
Kind of an extreme example, but you can tell what I'm getting at lol

hereare a couple of pics of the 2x4 if you're interested

65-70 in spring
75-80 in summer
65-70 in fall
what temperature is colder?

Where do you mount the flexx watt?
how long is the strip?
what width is the strip?

"in my house the temps are-60-65 in winter

60-65 is colder.

"Where do you mount the flexx watt? "
between sheets of glass buried in concrete
"how long is the strip? "
there are 3 6" strips close to each other
"what width is the strip?"
3"
"how many watts is the strip?"
I'm not sure, its some that my brother in law gave me.
I could bust apart the cement and see, but that wouldn't be good
