near-dead BT!!! help

jay111 Feb 05, 2004 10:16 PM

I know this guy, and no it isnt really me so dont insinuate, but hes got this blackthroat. When he got it it was in seemingly good shape, but has deteriorated signifigantly and is now very skinny and inactive. I know his temps are too cold, only about 90 at hottest, but could temp alone cause these probs? He says he thinks it was "born wild with existing probs", but like i said when he got it it was lookin pretty good. He also mentioned that he thought its kidneys were messed up. Im new to monitors, and im not sensing that this gentleman has a wealth of knowledge on the subject either. Could what he's telling me be true ( the kidneys and wc probs and all that) or is it the temps? Im gonna take it on myself to get some heat on the poor guy, and anything u guys could suggest would be appreciated, id hate to see this guy die, if he isnt already beyond help. Again, any suggestions would help. I check the forums frequently, so please feel free to ask any questions that might help make a suggestion.

I would, if feesable see a vet.
There are alot of things that could be going on here with symptoms like described.
I have owned a Reptile Rescue for 13 years now and I have also been re-habbing 13 too.
If you don't feel that you have the experience to try to help the animal, please contact a reputable reptile vet.
Good for you on stepping in and trying to help.
God Bless.

Well the problem is that its not my lizard, and unfortunately this man is one of those people who cant be told that they are wrong. I actually do some work for him, and hes a nice guy, but a bit too quick to think he knows alot more than he really does. If i were to suggest a vet trip i doubt if he would bother, as bad as that is. He would be content to just chalk it up to unfixable issues and let it be as it is. I was told (which may or may not be true) that the animal was treated with panacure /flagyll for internal parasites. Im hoping that i can just take it on myself to geta heat lamp on him, but im not sure how i should try to get him to eat. I was thinking maybe start with a pink, or even a pink-head, and gradually build from there. Please respond with any rehabb info so that i might be able to help this lil guy out. thanks ahead of time for all who offer assistance. Im glad this forum exists for folks like me to tap into the wealth of knowledge and experience that seems to exist here. -Jay
