Sick Argus Tree Frog

antonm Feb 05, 2004 10:32 PM

I am trying to rescue this argus tree frog I got. Unfortunatelly I'm not big on frogs, so I'm seeking help here. He had a bad eye infection, but with treatment I was able to clear this up. The bad news is, since he could not see for the past few weeks he has not eaten and is looking rather thin. Are help on getting him to eat or force feeding him would be awesome. He is active when I pick him up and moves when I put him on my finger with eyes wide open (ever since they healed). I take this as a good sign. Thanks in advance.

Tree Frogs are for the most part nocturnal. So if you're trying to only feed it during the day then you might run into some problems. Give it food at night..probably smaller crickets dusted with a good supplement. Does it seem to be dehydrated because this would cause it to loose its appetite? If it is give it a bowl of water and let it just soak. Hope everything goes well.

Thanks for the info. I have been misting the cage liberally and offering it small crickets with powder at night. It wakes up towards the evening and even walks around and croaks which I take as a good sign. I have identified it to be Leptopelis flavomaculatus, a reed frog of some sort. Any helpfull info on keeping these species would be appreaciated at this point. Thanks again for the reply.
