Why are so many keepers of hots so mean toward others in here?
I'm not a huge venomous keeper, only one Prairie Rattler(WC 4 years ago) other than that I'm into the usual boids. I try to never post in here because it seems like everyone is trying to belittle everyone else to make themsevles look better. I mean c'mon.....we're all in this for the same reasons aren't we?...for the love of the animals, love of the hobby, and just a love of the natural world....I know I am.
Sorry....just my crankiness showin thru again*l*

Hmmm. That depends on who you ask. If someone is keeping animals illegally, which there are quite a few in here that do, I personally don't feel they give a rats@ss about the snake or the hobby. If someone is willing to chop up a snake for profit (even though this is the land of opportunity), to me, they don't give a damn about the animals. If someone is willing to buy a venomoid because it's the new fad, to me, they don't give a damn about the animals. If someone is willingly buying an animal that they know they cannot take care, simply for the fact of having a venomous snake, to me, they don't care about the snake or hobby. If a zookeeper comes in here just to belittle the hobbyists, to me, they don't care about the hobby. You have to understand, there are many different people in here with many different views, many have alterior motives.....money and egos are a huge factors. I personally feel that if anyone is doing anything that may be potentially harmful to the hobby, then they don't care about it. Many people that come in here care pretty deeply for the hobby, and it shows when tempers flare, people are going to do things that others don't like, but I feel it's a person right to be able to express how they feel about it as well. Not everyone is going to get along, not here, not anywhere. It's human nature to have different opinions, and it's human nature to express how we feel about them. I personally am one of the ones that will fly off the handle pretty quick, but NEVER for the wrong reasons. Basically, I don't flame or pick on anyone just for the sake of fighting, although it may seem like it. I always have a point that others may not see. BUT, if some do see it, and that person may have taken any advice I have given, or detered them from doing the wrong thing, then it's worth the while, even if it means pissing a few people off.

First I think you have two major contributing factors here.
1) You have the subject of venomoiding that sharply devides people, and there's just no analogous subject that pops up on most of the other boards here (some tension between the young keepers and the people who think they're too young to keep on the big python forums, but not nearly as bad).
2) Statistically, I think venomous keepers are probably less likely than average to be the type of person that's terribly concerned about what other people think of them, so they're probably a little more prone say what's on thier mind.

On the other hand, if you think this is bad, you just don't get around much. Try the model airplane group on usenet. Between the fights about where people should be allowed to fly, whether it's safe to fly large scale planes, helicopter vs plane perople, kit vs arf, insurance vs no insurance...it puts this place to shame, and that's MODEL AIRPLANES for fred's sake.

I'm sorry if I touched a sore spot in here. You guys do make very good points though. Its just not as cheerful and as helpful to others as it is in other forums. I just hate to see someone really getting ripped because they don't know a latin name, or someone feels that they asked a dumb question.
