? about whether Zoe should sleep under his dripper...or not?

icequeen Feb 06, 2004 12:45 AM

For the last couple nights Zoe has attempted to sleep under his dripper, with water dripping over him.
I do use warm water in the dripper, but I'm worried about how cold he'll get with water running over him without his basking light on.
He is in shed right now, and seems to be seeking the water out. He will sit under his dripper with his head up, like he does when he wants a drink, and then when I fill the dripper he positions himself so that the water runs down over his side and soaks him.

Even though he seems to want to sleep under his dripper, should I allow him to? I don't want him to get a chill from the water, without being kept warm by the heat lamp. But, then the flipside of that is, in the wild he would be outside in the rain, without the heat.

Any opinions on this?
Thanks everyone.

Here's a pic of fat boy himself.

Hi kim,

I got Luna a new dripper and she spends a lot of time directly under it, too. I was wondring if this is common as she hadn't done it previously. As for sleeping under it - IMHO Iwould be afraid of the chill and constant wet. Can you just disconnect it/turn off before bed? i try to make sure Luna is all dry before ligths out. Just my 2 cents

That's my thought as well.
I did let him sleep under it the one night...but I just couldn't do it a second night.
I couldn't do it...I was way too worried he'd get sick again this year...and I couldn't handle the thought that I'd caused it.

Thanks Lele!!

good idea. I hear ya on self-blame. since we never knew (and never shall) know what happened to my brevi's I question myself still If they had come froma pet store or I knew they were wc that would be one thing...but getting them from the Kammers I can only think that something I did was responsible (except with Kaiya, the one who aspirated - I just didn't know) I try not to dwell on it, but I sure wish Luan would get this egg thing over with so I know that SHE's OK!!!

take an x-ray? How could he tell for sure. If she is eating like crazy she could be producing eggs now. I think Veilds take a bit longer than panthers to produce and lay the eggs.
I am positive my female Nosey Be is gravid again.
She just laid eggs in Dec but all of a sudden turned gravid colors and is back to the hiding elusive behavior she did last time she was gravid. And the same attitude.
I counted the days from the color change and she would be due to lay on Valentines Day if I am correct. Wow! a Christmas present and a Valentines gift too!
If Luna is gravid she will stop eating a day or two before laying. Mine went from pigging out to no food at all.
I would not force feed at all at that time because you don't want to stress her at that time.
There is also the possibility that the vet was wrong and she is not gravid. just going through a picky eater stage. They all do it at some time or other, the little brats!

Hi sonia,

no x-ray. at the time he went by her body shape which she still maintains. her lower abdomen is "full" and her ribs are sticking out. I was just thinking today that just because she was receptive in early/mid December that maybe the eggs didn't begin to develop right away. She is acting very "normal" and not quite as passive as before. So I think I am a little less freaked out by the whole thing as there is nothing I can do about it!
