...the status of this subspecies in captivity? I heard a gravid female was brought into the states in the early 90's. Does anybody have a pict(s) of rhis ssp? Thanks!

Scott----- I think the person you want to contact would be Ric Blair. I looked into obtaining some of these and it seemed out of reach unless you have some good connections. Its been about a year, maybe longer since I posted on these guys. I had some really good responce from a few who owned some or had in the past. I would look up the king by the species in the archived post area. I know I talked to a couple of breeders at the time(no offspring ) but when offered they werent cheap. I always looked for good pics but could never really find any. I will look at the archives also to see if I can help you out.
Randy
P.S. Rics page can be found in the breeders area.

...Not really stoked on getting some, just interested in the status in captivity. I saw a pict way-back-when but am interested in seeing others. Some specimens reportedly have NO red at all! I remember seeing one for sale in The Herpetarium's price list in 1972 for $1500!! That's like $5000 today! It's about time I learned how to use that archive feature, and I'll check out RB's site. Thanks for your input! SJM

No Problem. You know, Gerald Merker& Rick Staub wrote an article on California mountain Kings It appeared in Reptiles magazine in January 2002. Page.44to 59 There is a picture of one on page45. Maybe if you email those guys they would know something more. Tell them Randy from Nebraska said Hello.

Yeah I saw the article...and apparently Rick Blair doesn't have picts of his altho he's got prices for hatchlings, altho I didn't get into his photo gallery (lack of time). But thanks again for the info! SJM
