Please tell me it's not.
I have been using cypress bale for a month now in my bearded dragons cage.
WTH! So much debate over sand and now this.
Is it true? Is cypress a lethal substrate?

I'm not sure as far as toxicity, but if ingested it could cause impaction. It is never recommended to use any type of shredded bark, shells (walnut), mulch or fiber.
I do know some barks have oils that are toxic to reptiles.

Cypress is not toxic to reptiles but it is frequently confused with cedar which is quite toxic to both reptiles and rodents. As Christy pointed out any (undigestable) particle substrate still presents a risk of impaction.

Thanks for the replies.
I knew cedar was toxic but had never heard of cypress being bad. I have been using cypress with my snakes for years.
Looks like it's back to sand for the dragon.
