Dione hatching!

nazza Jun 08, 2003 03:26 AM

after 37 days of incubation at room temp yesterday I manually pipped a dione egg, now is out a big big hatchling (and i pipped the smallest egg!) The hatchling seem healty and is very fat but haven't the parents yellow. I've seen baby from my breeding pair (when were keep by another breeder) and were as yellow as parents. Colour come out growing up? or could be temperature incubation affect colour? Now I pipped all other eggs and I'm waiting for other 7 big monsters!
I'll call a friend with a cam and will post soon pics

Congratulations! I think the babies might look brighter after they shed the first time. Also, in my opinion, dione get better color as they get older and more mature.

37 days seems like a long time for incubation. Although my Chines dione hatched after about 32-34 days, I think. I've had a range from 13 (Ukraine) to 30 (South Korean), and maybe 34 days for some Chinese. I also think the further south you go the longer the incubation will be. Of course, that depends on incubation temperatures too.

Good luck with those babies and can't wait to see some photos.

Thanks....TC.
