Handling question.

Foreman Feb 06, 2004 10:47 AM

How often should you handle your snake? I have heard that after they eat you should wait two days before you handle them. After that is once a day for 5-15 minutes to often, or is 2 to 3 times a week a better way to go? I want him to feel secure but not stressed. Thank you.

well i have some snakes i could hold all the time and some of my snakes dont like it to much at all ,depends on the snake as long as you show the snake respect and learn when it will let you hold it and when it wants to be left alone, and yes id at least let the snake alone a day or two after it ate, it takes a little time to learn what your snake wants and dont want

have a good one

The two day rule after feeding is a good one. As you handle your snake, it should become tamer, but remember that Rat Snakes like to keep moving while you hold them, so let the snake travel from hand to hand. Don't try to restrict it, rather try to direct where it goes. You want the snake to feel relaxed and safe. The more time you spend with it, the more it should trust you.
