The dumping of beardies

dragonlady1 Feb 06, 2004 11:59 AM

Hi everybody
I hate when someone doný takes the responsibility for his animal, last monday some people came into the shop where I work and they gave us their 4 beardies, it was terrible! When I came in later that day to feed my animals my boss asked my to take a look at what was brought in...it was just to sad for words. There were a father a mother and 3 of their offspring, the father was a big fat beardy but with a big scar on his back, he looked healthy, the mother was nearly dead, badly dehydrated, rubberlike and as flat as a pancake. Then there were the 3 youngsters the have obviously got MBD, they have eyes like marbles, malformed legs and a mouth thats open all the time, they were also dehydrated an very skinny. I was just so angry at those people, tomorrow they will come back at our shop to get some things for the other animals but I think I'm going to have a talk with them about this...I hate it when people like this can get animals. The mother had died today.

That's horrible! I've seen it before but it's so hard everytime I see it. People can be so cruel! Haven't they heard of a VET! I feel so sorry for them and hope that the siblings make it. Maybe it was for the best that the mother died. She was probably in pain and too weak. You have a heart of gold Cindy. I hope you can tell those people what you think without losing your job. If it were me I'd be crazy mad! That's just how I get. If I owned the store I'd ban them from the store.

Sorry, had to vent. You're doing a good thing helping out as much as you can. They all obviously need calcium and liquids ASAP. I wish you the best of luck with them. Keep us posted.

No matter what they should be reported to the ASPCA. I don't think they should be allowed to shop at your store!! I am glad that you have them now and I am sorry about the mother.and you should probably take those babies to the vet and have them give them calcium injections, if you haven't thought of that already.

Unfortionatly I'm Dutch and we don't have something like your ASPCA over here, so I can't do something about that. The other animals that they have are snakes. The 3 youngsters are already doing better since they came in, so I think I can conclude by that that I'm doing the right thing with them. There already chewing themselves now, the first 2 days I had to feed them babyfood, cause they almost woren't able to chew. But today I gave them a pinky and they were very enthousiastic about it, they already started to chew before the pinky was near their mouth.I also give them a lot of korvimin which I solved in water so there getting a lot of calcium. Hope that they'll make it.

That is sad they should be charged with animal cruelty

Amk2109 Feb 06, 2004 01:24 PM

I am sorry that you have to witness such cruelty but I am glad that they have you now so that maybe some damage can be reversed. People are just disgusting to me that do things like that to an animal. That animal is completely dependent on your to take proper care of them and what kind of heartless, disgusting person would let that happen to a pet. I feel bad if my dragons are shedding and they keep rubbing up against things to get the skin off I could never imagine letting something that you care for get in such bad condition. That picture just makes me want to cry. I hope they don't have any children!! Lord only knows how they would treat them.

We've had about 8 beardies in the last couple of months and each and every one of them had something. I found a home for 2 of them now, we have another beardy that is in the store no for a while and he has a hunchback and crooked legs, but he's very vital now, so he's doing well. My boss is thinking about keekping him himself cause he's so malformed and he's so cheerfull and glad with everything that we just can't get it over our hearts to let him just sit in the store.

NOt to give them any credit, but at least thye brought them in before they all dies. I am so glad the family ended up with you so they can at least have a fighting chance of a happy life. Keep up the good work!!

It sickens me that they have other animals, when they obviously did not care for these animals!!
