Car accident with geckos on board......long

RedQuake Feb 06, 2004 12:07 PM

The titles says it all LOL. I picked up the two crested geckos today and except for spinning out my car all went pretty well.

Now upheaving a gecko from one home and transporting them to another is stressful enough, but on top of that these two got the joy ride of the year....It was not smart of me to really go out today as the weather is crappy (freezing rain in parts) but as always i had to go. The excitement started as i allowed my car to coast down a hill and around a curve (brakes are a very bad idea, thats why i let the car slow down to a near crawl at the top). The road was covered in snow and ice pellets (go figure the plow showed up 5 min after the car crashed), and my back passenger side tire caught the shoulder as i tried to stay as far over as possible avoiding the oncoming traffic that insisted on being in MY lane. Well to make a long story short, i got catapolted into the other lane, steered back but ended up with my back end up a snow bank, the car pretty much resting on the front bumper.......facing the wrong way on the shoulder of the road. Thankgoodness for big trucks and chains LOL, i was able to be pulled out and after checking over the car, i drove home.

The geckos were in individual boxes on the floor in the front seat and it was a good thing i had moved the seat up to hold both boxes in place as they didn't move. Once home i allowed them to just sit for a while then i opened up the boxes fearing the worst. Both geckos looked fine and are now in their new home. They are walking around investigating the tank and are amazing. One for sure is male, he's larger then the other that looks female. They have been housed together for nearly a year and she doesn't look gravid to me but i'm investing in another tank.....plus i've inquired about a hovabator just to be on the safe side.

Well that was my exciting day.....lol

P.S. To those Canadians who live in southern ontario.....if you don't have to go out today, don't

They are in a different room away from my geckos but i just went in and the male as already figured out where the door is LOL, its locked though, and the female was checking out the humid hide. They seem fine but i'll keep a close eye on them to be sure.

I must either have a horse shoe up my wazzazy or an angel on my shoulder cause its a miracle i got the car out of the other lane away from the other cars......if not that would have been one huge pile up. I've always had an intence fear of being in an accident with animals in the car...or other people....luckily this is my second accident in 9 years of driving. Winter, i hate it!!!!!! At least this time i didn't get hurt.....i'm shook up but not hurt. My first accident totalled my car (oil pan where the muffler should be) so i'm very lucky.

It's great that your animals weren't harmed, but to put it all in perspective, I think the most important thing is that YOU are okay! Scary situation, that!

I'm pretty much sick of the snow...but i'm alot luckier than some people i saw on the news.....the only part of the house visible was the roof and the walkway to the front door....now thats snow. I can't wait for spring

I wonder what the cool spell is like in the leos native land. Do they have a winter there (minus the snow of course), does it last months and how cold does it really get?

Even though i'm not keen on winter, i couldn't imagine having grown up without snow...hehehe
