I recently asked this question too, because when I was thinking of getting a beardie I learned that silkworms were nutritionally better than crickets and that a beardie could be feed a staple diet of silkies. I've yet to get a response from anyone on this forum that knew for sure, but I would say that I believe variety to be very important for many animals - including a leo. I plan to feed a staple diet of silkies and mealworms supplemented with crickets, earthworms, waxworms, etc.

ya...silkies are way better for beardies...the crix have small amount of parasites...maby not enough 2 make the lizard sick but it will slow down their growth

Yes Silkworms can be fed as a staple diet, assuming that your geckos will eat them, some will, some won't. Keep in mind that their is a difference between a staple diet, and an exclusive diet. Silkworms can be the staple, but you will still need to add some variety to their diet, superworms, mealworms, etc.... I would avoid the waxworms, and don't recommend earthworms at all, especially red wigglers which I have heard can be mildly toxic although I can't remember where I heard that, or how reliable it is.......

Never tried silkwormfarm.com, they seem to be a "new kid on the block", I always used Mulberry Farms, who were pretty much the groundbreakers in offering Silkworms as a reptile food source over the internet.

I've heard the same of red wigglers, but haven't had the time to look for supporting info.

Why do you say stay away from waxworms and earthworms? Have you heard bad things about these too?

Thanks - still learning.

my two tremper giants will not eat the silkies, but the a few of my other geckos will..all depends on the individual gecko..
