Anybody know a good recipe?

boidsntegus Feb 06, 2004 03:06 PM

I am looking for a mixture to use as a staple diet for my arg. I was thinking something like ground turkey and beef mixed with some fruits and veggies. This way I could make a batch on the weekend, store it in the fridge, and scoop him out some as needed. Does anyone else do this? Do you have any recommendations for the recipe that is easy, nutritious, and tasty?

Here's what I've been doing with my big boy since he was 14" long. Mix lean ground turkey with 1/2 tablespoon each of Herptivite and Repcal (no phosphorous). Mix it up really good, make golf ball sized (size varies depending on your animal) meatballs out of it and put in freezer bags. Thaw out on feeding day and put it in his bowl. I have also experimented with mixing in fruits and I have found that he doesn't mind strawberries mixed in as long as they are chopped really finely. I have fed this to him as a staple since last June and he is now nearly 4 feet long and the picture of health. I did however always feed him mice/rats on the weekends, so 5 days of turkey and 2 days of rodents. Lately, he has been getting more rats in his diet, probably 50/50. I don't mix the fruit in anymore, but rather offer it to him 1-2x per week in place of his meat. Now he is offered food 4-6 days per week on average - I just gauge by how fat he looks.
