Hi everyone!!! I got a lighting question??? PLEASE!!!!

Chameleon996 Feb 06, 2004 04:08 PM

I recently got this new bulb called an ESU super uv bulb. It is a 75 watt bulb and is shaped like a coil. I was just wanting some feed back.

taht is acually a 20 watt light that gives off the same amount of light as a 75 watt.

I have that and i would only use for lighting since it really doesn't give off a whole lot of uvb. it gives off tons of light and plants realy like it. if you have a small tank like a 10 gallon or 20 it works well for anoles and frogs and things but not really good for chams.

and i know they cost like twenty dallors so you could use it for a while just make sure that your chams can get acual sun light some time in the year or get a higher uvb output bulb

www.reptiledepot.com and get 5.0 reptisun UVB bulbs in any size for about $16.00 to $20.00 most of the time.
and I think their shipping is about $4.00 for ground
I have had no problems with the reptisun 5.0 bulbs

Thanks, your right it is a 20 that acts like a 75. I actually was going to get the mercury vapors when I seen this and thought that I would try it. It isn't the only light on my cage because it doesn't put out enough light for the size cage that I have.

I guess it's back to the mercury vapors. I just need something to get through the winter months because my chams spend the summer outside.

Careful about MVs. They should be at least 12"-24" from the basking spot or they give too muvh UVB. Gary Ferguson of Texas Christian Univ. recently published a paper on this. At that distance they don't give enough heat for basking. There are ways around this but a Reptison 5.0 UVB might be the easiest and best solution.
