I just got a hovabator today. i got some questions

1. is it supposed to be styrofoam??
2. there is a plastic tray on the bottom that has sections. The instructions say to fill the "thermal" section with water.do i do that??
3.do i just put the eggs in a deli cup of vermeculite and put that on the screen inside of the hovabator.
4. the thermometer that came with it says it is at 82 degrees and the digital i put in there says 90??

thanks

Hello there,

In response to your message. Yes, it is supposed to be Styrofone. You should fill with water the canals in the bottom of the incubator. Do not fill the ones that have holes. As you said, put the eggs in a deli cup with vermiculite, and stick them into the incubator. That thermometer that came with the incubator could be not working. It hasnt happened to me, but it is possible. Let the incubator to run for a couple of days until you adjust the temperatures. I hope this helps.

Hi, I heard as long as you hydrated the vermiculite right, you shouldnt have to add extra water to the hovabator. Just check on it a few times and make sure it doesnt dry out, but don't drench it either. The thermometer that came with mine shows its 5 degress higher than what my digital and analog thermometer in there (I used 3 total to make sure I get the right temp) so I'm trusting the digital and analog. Good luck this breeding season!

what model# of hovabator do you have..i don't remeber having to fill it with water..I have the noncirculating type.. i put the screen on the bottom and i adjust the temps to get them right. i put the eggs in punched deli cups with moist vermiculite. i have had no problems with getting eggs to hatch doing this. last year i produced over 80 geckos .
