Can anyone shed some light on Rhinocerous Iguana subspecies?

Matt L. Feb 06, 2004 05:27 PM

Hello all,
I was hoping that some of you Cyclura fanatics out there could give me some information on the Rhinocerous Iguana subspecies, besides the Hatian Cornutas. What are the physical differences between the Mona Islands and Hatians? Does anyone have any information about the supposes extinct species of Rhinocerous Iguana?

Thanks for your help,
Matt Lindstrom

The differences between the Mona iguana (C. c. stejnegeri) and the rhino from HIspaniolia are minor (scale differences so far). Some researchers list the Mona iguana as a full species. The Rhino from Navassa island (C. c. onchiopsis) is extinct.
