3 leos in one enclosure...

hhawk20005 Feb 06, 2004 09:02 PM

Hi, i would like to house my 3 females together in one tank, but i'm not sure if i can. it is a 60 Gal long that a friend of mine built for me... i know i can house up to 6 leos in it, but i wanted to know if i could house 2 5 gram leos, and 1 18 gram... if you have any ideas if that would be ok, please let me know. Thanks

They can be housed together (assuming that you bred them, they've been housed together in the past, or they've all been quarantined for at least 2-3 months (3 is best!)). Being so small though, they would probably not do very well in such a large tank, and would prefer something smaller.

Quarantine is very important before introducing leo to each other. All it takes is one sick gecko to pass on problems to the others

I personally wouldn’t house juvies together that are more that 10 grams apart. The larger leo could be a bit intimidating to the younger ones.

That seems like a very large tank for such little leos, but I’d guess they could adjust to it. They would be more comfortable in that sized tank as adults. You might consider dividing the tank in some way, putting the two smaller ones on one side, and the larger on the other, until they are a bit older, then they could be housed together.

Hey, if i was you i would study Leopard Geckos alot more before making a site with them included. A 15 gallon tank is not suitable for 2 geckos. You have to remember that each gecko will need 10" by 10" of ground space.

He may have well done research, I have at least 2 books here about leopard geckos that state it is fine to have 3 in a 10 gallon tank. Granted that's not fair to the animals in my eyes, it is fair in some peoples eyes and is also in print. I'd turn the lights on and get the book titles and authors for you, but my wife's asleep, I'll try and remember to do it tomorrow morning.

Yes well u CAN do anything but if you are a responsible person and care for your animals your not gonna put 400 leos in a 20 gallon tank even though you CAN do it. also another example is that you CAN murder someone but it doesnt make it exactally right now does it? Do u see where i am getting at?

technically if you say each gecko needs a 10" by 10" per gecko thats 100 square inches.. a 15 gallon tank is 12x24 giving you 288 square inches.. by those measurements as you have suggested 2 leos can fit decently in a 15 gallon tank.

I have kept 3 adults in a 20L gallon tank. I have also housed pairs in 15 gallon tanks with no ill effects. this post seems to be a bit off topic of what of what the original user was posting and no where does it say about him creating a web site. perhaps the posts got mixed up..
